ELIGIBILITY
CONDITIONS: Individual event:

All competitors must satisfy the following conditions:

1) Be a student who is registered for and pursuing a full-time course of study at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Post-secondary institutions include community colleges, professional schools, technical schools, CEGEP and Universities. Canadian citizens (holding a Canadian passport) studying abroad are also eligible. Students who were full time students and completed their studies in the semester preceding the date of the competition will also be eligible.
2) Must be able to confirm their full-time student status with an authorized document from the registrar of their institution
3) Must be at least 17 and less than 28 years of age as of January 1st of the year of the event.
4) Must not have played in any badminton championship restricted to another country within one calendar year of the date of the event

The individual event will serve as a selection event for the 2013 Summer Universiade being held in Kazanm Russia, July 6th- 17th, 2013.

Team event:
CCAA Team Event
1) Badminton Canada will invite a maximum of 8 teams to compete in the CIS team event
2) The invitations will be determined by the CCAA and Badminton Canada.
3) The host institution gains an automatic entry
4) Team must be comprised of a minimum of 8 athletes. (4 men, 4 women) There is no maximum team size.

CIS Team Event:
1) Badminton Canada will invite a maximum of 8 teams to compete in the CIS team event
2) The invitations will be determined by the CIS and Badminton Canada.
3) The host institution gains an automatic entry
4) Team must be comprised of a minimum of 8 athletes. (4 men, 4 women) There is no maximum team size.

EVENTS: Team Championships: Each tie shall be decided by the results of two singles and three doubles matches. In round robin play, all five matches of each tie shall be played.
In semi-final and final play, each tie shall be stopped when the tie is decided.

No player shall play in more than 1 match per tie in the CIS event.

The order of play in each tie will be decided based upon request of the “receiving” team

Individual Championships: Play will occur in Men’s singles, Women singles, Men’s doubles, Women doubles and Mixed doubles.
Individual athletes need not be affiliated to a CIS or CCAA badminton team but must meet the CONDITIONS noted above.
For doubles events teams may be comprised of students from different post-secondary institutions but still meet the eligibility requirements.

A playoff for 3rd place will occur between losing semi finalists in each individual event.

BWF rules will apply for the scoring system (21 rally-point) and coaching rules.

CLOTHING: Badminton World Federation guidelines will apply.

DRUG TESTING: Athletes are advised that they may be subject to testing for banned substances and methods as indicated by IOC and BWF. Tests would be conducted by the Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport. For further information please visit www.cces.ca

Medals will be awarded to the winners and finalists of each main round of the individual event.
For the team event medals and a banner will be awarded.
Marchandise for consolation winners.
