ALBERTA JUNIOR INTERCLUB CHALLENGE

 

INFORMATION AND TECHNICAL REGULATIONS

ENTRY DEADLINE - We ask that you please RSVP by Monday, November 7th, 2016. Players must have the approval of their club to enter on-line registration.

 

COST  - $50 per player.  PLEASE MAKE CHEQUES PAYABLE TO 'BADMINTON ALBERTA'. The entry fee will include: shuttles, prizes and tournament souvenir.

FORMAT

  • Two age categories will be contested: Under 15 (born in 2002 or later) Under 17 (Born 2000 or later)
  • Each team will consist of a minimum of five boys and five girls (with at least three boys and three girls in the u15 age category).
  • Each age category "tie" will consist of: one boys’ singles, one girls’ singles, one boy’s doubles, one girl’s doubles, one mixed doubles
  • At the conclusion of the ten matches, the teams are even at 5 matches each, an extra mixed doubles match will be required. The coaches will provide the names of one athlete per age category, who hasn’t already competed in mixed doubles, to play the rubber.
  • The team winning at least 6 matches will be declared the winner of the team tie.

 

SCHEDULE - Not knowing the total number of entries, it is difficult to provide a playing schedule at the present time. Travel schedules should accommodate availability to start play on Friday at 12:00 noon. Play should end on Sunday no later than 3:00 pm.

TECHNICAL REGULATIONS

 

Definition - The competition for the Alberta Junior Interclub Challenge shall be a semi-annual Under 15 & Under 17 Team Championship.  A minimum of four clubs shall be required to participate.

 

1.   General Organization

The Competition shall be conducted in accordance with the following Regulations, and the Laws of Badminton.

 

2.   Form Of Competition

2.1 The Competition shall follow the Regulations of the Sudirman Cup (World Mixed Team Championship) which consists of five match ties.

2.2 The official shuttle shall be the Yonex AS50 feather shuttle. All shuttles will be provided for all matches

 

3.   Entries

  • Member Clubs or Zone Associations must state their intent to enter a team at least one week prior to the tournament date.
  • The provincial association may entertain entry inquiries from foreign or club interests.
  • Taking account of the number of courts available at the chosen venue and to keep the duration of the competition reasonable, the host may impose an upper limit on the number of entries, which can be accepted.
  • No decision can be made with regard to a foreign or club entry without the consent of the participating Clubs or Zone Associations.

 

4.   Method Of Competition

  • The tournament shall declare a Provincial Junior Interclub Champion in the Under 15 & Under 17 age categories.
  • The tournament format is that of team competition.
  • The tournament schedule will be dependent on the number of entries.
  • The intent of the championships but not restricted to, is to have a minimum of four participating teams.

 

Arrangements for Venue

  • The venue is to rotate among the three major centres of Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton.
  • The tournament is to be held semi-annually on the second full weekend of November.
  • The tournament venue must meet the minimum standards as outlined in the Technical Regulations.

 

6.   Appointment of Referee

  • The host organizing committee shall appoint a Referee, preferably of national caliber.
  • The Referee shall have the power to hold a coaches/team managers meeting prior to the commencement of play.
  • There shall be no appeal against the decision of a Referee.

 

7.   Qualification of Players

  • Players having represented Canada at a major international games (Olympic, Commonwealth, Pan Am, Thomas/Uber Cup, World Juniors and Sudirman Cup) shall be ineligible.

 

8.   Nomination of Teams

  • Each competing Club or Zone Association shall, at least 4 days prior to commencement of play, nominate to the host organization the players from whom its team will be selected.
  • Teams shall be required to play ties comprising: one Boy’s Singles, one Girl’s Singles, one Boy’s Doubles, one Girl’s Doubles, and one Mixed Doubles per age category, with the exception of an additional mixed doubles match should the teams be tied at 5 all at the conclusion of regular play.
  • Each coach or manager shall hand to the Referee the composition of his team for each tie, where the players are from those previously nominated, not less than 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the tie.
  • Coach or manager must submit a line-up at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the tie or their line-up from the previous encounter will be used. If this is the first encounter, then the tournament referee shall determine the line-up by drawing names from a hat.
  • Coach may change the line-up for each subsequent team tie.
  • The Referee may sanction a substitute (or substitutes) for a player who, in the opinion of the Referee, is incapacitated by illness, accident or unavoidable hindrance. A substitute player may take no further part in a tie.
  • It is preferred but not required that all team members wear similar or matching shirts

 

9.   Constitution of Matches and Teams

  • Each tie shall be decided by the results of the two singles and three doubles matches and all five matches shall be played. However, in the final tie, the Referee may decide not to play the last match or matches if the tie is already decided.
  • No player shall play in more than two matches per encounter.
  • The minimum size of team for each age group tie is two male and two
  • female players
  • No player may compete in the same event in any individual tie (i.e. one player cannot play both singles matches, but can play in a singles, a doubles and or mixed).

 

10.      Order of Play

  • The Referee or host committee shall decide and announce the order of play.
  • A player is entitled to an interval of 30 minutes between two matches.
  • A player must be prepared to go on court at the start of the tie; there will be a 10-minute default rule in effect. This applies to all remaining matches in a tie as well.

 

11.      Pool Format

  • Each Club may enter a maximum of one team per age category.
  • Depending on the number of entries and the size of the venue, the host club has the option to enter an additional team if required to have even number of teams.
  • If five or less teams, the tournament will be played in a single pool round robin format.
  • If there are six or more teams competing, the organizer may use a multiple pool system with crossover playoffs.
  • The Referee shall seed the entries according to the highest ranked entry in each event and prepare the draw accordingly.

 

12.      Final Standings

  • In round robin pool format - order of finish is determined by number of ties won.
  • Ties decided as follows:
  • If two teams have won the same number of ties, ranking will be decided by the result of the tie between them.
  • If three or more teams have won the same number of ties, ranking will be decided by the total number of matches won. If this leaves two teams equal, ranking will be decided by the result of the tie between them.
  • If three or more teams have won the same number of ties and the same number of matches, ranking will be decided by the difference between total games won and total games lost, with greater differences ranked higher. If this leaves two teams equal, ranking will be decided by the result of the tie between them.
  • If three or more teams have won the same number of ties and the same number of matches, and have the same difference between total games won and total games lost, ranking will be decided by the difference between total points won and total points lost, with greater difference ranked higher. If this leaves two teams equal, ranking will be decided by the result of the tie between them.
  • If three or more teams have won the same number of ties and the same number of matches, have the same difference between total games won and total games lost and have the same difference between total points won and total points lost, ranking will be decided by drawing lots.
  • A conceded match shall count as if completed without the conceding side scoring another point.
  • All results of any team that has been disqualified or withdraws shall be entirely deleted.

 

13.      Injuries

  • If a player is injured before play begins, alteration to the line-up will be at the discretion of the referee.
  • If a player is injured during play, team officials only are permitted on court with the referee’s permission.
  • If the injured player is unable to continue, the umpire/referee shall announce the match and report the appropriate score to the draw desk.
  • No substitutes are permitted in a tie, however, in subsequent ties; the team can submit a line-up not including the injured player.
  • No additional player(s) other than those on the team’s initial roster are permitted to play.

Entry Fee

  • Entry fee, as established by the organizing committee, shall be due on or before the entry deadline.
