The INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS OF CANADA

Part of Badminton Pan Am Junior Circuit 2019

GENERAL INFORMATION
Canadian Junior International 2019 is part of the World Junior Ranking 2019 and the Badminton Pan Am Junior Circuit 2019. The tournament will be played in accordance with the Laws of Badminton and the General Competition regulations of BWF as well as with the Badminton Pan Am 2019 Junior Circuit Regulations.

5. ELIGIBILITY
a. Canadian players must have a current membership with their PSO/TSO.
b. Foreign players have to be members of an association affiliated with the BWF.
c. Participation is restricted to players born in the year 2001 or later.

7. VISA
• Badminton Canada will provide letters of invitation to all countries competing at the 2019 Canadian Junior International requiring entry VISAs. Please visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas-all.asp to see if you participants require an entry VISA.
• If you require a VISA, please complete the attached VISA Request Form. Please submit the completed form to badminton@badminton.ca no later than February 1st, 2019.
• Please note that VISA issuing timelines at Canadian Consulates can vary significantly. Please contact your local consulate to confirm timelines as soon as possible.
• Please note that if you DO NOT require a VISA to enter into Canada that you will likely require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). These are issued through your travel agent or by your airline prior to boarding a flight bound for Canada.

8. DISCOUNT AIRFARE
Badminton Canada has been able to secure an airfare discount ranging from 10% to 15% for all participants attending the 2019 Canadian Junior International with two of Canada’s National Airlines – WestJet and Air Canada.

WestJet primarily services Canada, USA and the Caribbean with limited service to Europe.

Air Canada services Canada, USA, Caribbean, Central/South America, Europe and Asia.

9. OFFICIAL HOTEL
The official hotel will be the Delta by Marriott Edmonton South Conference Centre, 4404 Gateway Boulevard NW, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada T6H 5C2
The Delta by Marriott Edmonton South is conveniently located at the intersection of Gateway Blvd and White Mud Drive in South Edmonton, and less than a ten-minute commute from The Derrick Club. A good selection of off-site restaurant choices are within walking distance of the hotel.

Guests can choose from a variety of room/suite styles, ranging from standard double queen to single king. All guests receive complimentary: high speed internet, access to on-site indoor heated pool and fitness centre.

Rates begin at $133 CDN per night. Rates quoted are for single thru quad occupancy. Room rate is subject to 3% DMF, 4% Tourism Levy and 5% GST. All rooms within our block not booked by February 15th will be released back into the system at which time we cannot confirm the rate or availability.

As teams/countries/individuals are responsible for making their own individual reservations and to ensure that they receive the negotiated rate, please have them identify themselves as participants in the Canada Junior Badminton International Open 2019

10. EVENTS
Each player is allowed to play in three events. (Singles, doubles and mixed doubles) The Championship will consist five categories of Individual Events.

If the number of entries exceeds the amount listed above, qualification draw(s) will be held in accordance with BWF Statutes, Section 5.2.3: Junior Tournament Regulations.
Entries must be done in order of strength and must include the date of birth.
It is required that every event in a particular BWF Junior tournament has at least 8 competitors. If the required number of competitors is not met, this particular event shall not count towards BWF ranking.

The five categories will be played by knock-out system with best of 3 games to 21 points, using rally point. Scoring system is in accordance to BWF Grade 3 and Junior Tournaments rules and regulations.

11. ONLINE ENTRY-FOREIGN ATHLETES
All entries must be made by using the BWF Online Entry System:

Players cannot be entered unless they already have a BWF ID-number. In case you wish to enter player(s) who do not have a BWF ID-number, please contact the BWF office well in advance of the tournament, so that the player(s) concerned can get a BWF ID-number before the closing date of the tournament.
Entries must be submitted to BWF no later than Tuesday 19 February 2019 at 23.59 hours BWF Headquarter time (GMT + 08.00 hours). You are required to submit the entries on time and late entries will not be accepted.
BWF Member Associations can use their existing online entry login and password to submit the entries. For those who had not submitted any entries by online entry are advised to contact BWF Senior Events Officer Shan Ramachandran s.ramachandran@bwfbadminton.org to obtain their login and password.
Badminton Canada is not allowed to accept any late entries. It is imperative that entries are submitted on time through the Online Entry System.

After the closing date, the BWF Online Entry System will send a notification to all participating Member Associations confirming receipt of final entries. Receipt of this notification is the conclusive evidence of receipt of entries before the entry deadline.

The Member Associations should contact BWF immediately if such notice is not received by the Wednesday (next day of the entries closing date) by noon BWF Headquarters time (+08.00h GMT) following close of entries. If no objection is received by BWF by Thursday (second day after the entries closing day) 23.59 hours BWF Headquarters time (+08.00h GMT) following the close of entries, the entries shall be deemed to be correct. No complaints / objections shall be entertained after this point.

ONLINE ENTRY-CANADIAN ATHLETES
All Canadian athletes must enter directly through Badminton Canada’s on-line registration system at:

The deadline for Canadian athletes will be Tuesday, February 12th, 2019 at 1600 hrs. (Eastern Standard Time) or 1400 hrs (MST). Canadian athletes must be current members of their respective provincial or territorial badminton association and pay the entry fee at the time of on-line registration.

12. ENTRY FEES
An Entry Fee of $50 USD per event is to be paid in advance of the tournament, or at the time of in-person registration on March 20th, 2019.
The Member Association that enters a player/pair into a BWF Junior Circuit tournament is responsible for paying the entry fees for that player/pair. The entry fees become due if a player is entered and has not been withdrawn when the entry deadline passes.

Canadian players will be required to pay at the time of on-line entry.

13. IMPORTANT DATES/TIMELINES

14. PROGRAMME (tentative)
Wednesday, March 20th , 2019 at The Derrick Golf and Winter Club
• 1300-1700hrs Registration for all participants
• 1700-1800hrs Team Managers Meeting at the host hotel
• 1830-1930hrs Technical Officials Meeting at the host hotel

Each participating team should appoint one Team Manager.
The Team Managers shall attend any briefings and meetings called by the Referee.

15. DRAW
Seeding and draw will be done by Badminton Pan Am.

16. CLOTHING
Each article of clothing must comply with the actual BWF General Competition Regulations.

17. SHUTTLES
Yonex AS 50 feather shuttles will be used. Edmonton is located at 3,000 feet above sea level, and therefore only speeds 1 & 0 will be available.

18. PRIZES
For winners and runners up. The Prize ceremony will take place on Sunday afternoon.

19. GROUND TRANSPORT
Airport transfer will be provided from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to the official hotel upon request. The flight details must be filled up in the Flight Details Form and must be sent to apang@badmintonalberta.ca or fax at +011 403 297 2706 not later than March 1st, 2019.

The host organizer will require sufficient time to co-ordinate airport pick-up and drop-off and to schedule practice court at the tournament venue, so please send your flight details as early as possible.

Late requests (after the deadline) will not be entertained. Request for refund of taxi charges will not be entertained. Ground transportation to and from the venue will only be provided to participants staying at the Official Hotel.

20. PRACTICE SESSIONS
Practice at the tournament venue will be arranged according to the teams’ arrival details and team size, as available on the following dates:

Practise Schedule will be published prior your arrival. Visiting teams will be issued two shuttles per player for use during practice sessions.

21. ACCREDITATION
ID passes will be arranged for participating players and team officials. Please fill-in the Team Officials’ List Form and return to apang@badmintonalberta.ca before March 1st , 2019. Be sure to label each head & shoulder photo with the name of the individual.

22. INSURANCE
To be arranged individually by participants. The organizer declines responsibility and covering of cost for possible injuries or other damages. It is up to each participant to arrange with insurance. Please ensure that your players & team officials are covered with the necessary insurance policy to meet the current requirements.
