Welcome to Competition 101 - Calgary Parent's seminar

Badminton Alberta will be offering a “Welcome to Competition 101” seminar on Thursday December 15 at 6pm-7:30pm (Alberta Badminton Centre- 60 Patterson Blvd S.W., Calgary, AB T3H 2E1

The session is being presented to inform the parents of children enrolled in Calgary's Badminton Academy, but if others would like to attend, please complete the on-line registration. Attendance is capped at the first 90 participants, including children.

Interested parents we ask that you please register on our homepage under the “Welcome to Competition Seminar” link.

We have received some inquiries regarding our junior tournament schedule, and your child’s potential inclusion.

The Learning Factor:

* While tournaments offer many learning benefits getting the “hang” of the procedures often requires some patience. Don’t worry, as in many “first foray’s” seamless transition is right around the corner!

* This introduction to competition is offered to families whose children are embarking on or thinking of entering the junior tournament stream that Badminton Alberta offers. The agenda will include, but is not limited to:

  • Tournament registration process
  • Tournament rules and regulations
  • Understanding types of event draws
  • Individual Membership with Badminton Alberta
  • What is Meaningful Competition
  • Your vs. our Performance Expectations
  • Site expectations
  • Venue

As a brief user guide please refer to the following recommendations:

  • Select a tournament that offers the most meaningful competition,
  • Tournaments are not created equal. Different events offer different levels of competition,
  • The Badminton Academy Junior for instance generally attracts a more novice level than the Calgary Winter Club Junior. This should be a consideration when factoring in your child’s potential success.
  • Play as many events as allowed, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

This simply allows your child to gain more tournament experience in any given event.
