Team Alberta athletes dominate Yonex Prairie Senior Elite

Alberta athletes vying for a spot on Team Alberta 2015 performed to their potential at the Yonex Prairie Senior Elite held October 24-26 at Riverside Badminton Club in Saskatoon.

Alberta athletes won four of the five events, while finishing second in three events. In men's doubles Austin Bauer and Ty LIndeman defeated Andy Ko and Nathan Osborne 19-21, 21-18, 21-8, while in women's doubles Takeisha Wang and Josephine Wu defeated Quebec's Anne-Julie Beaulieu and Stephanie Pakenham 18-21, 21-10, 21-17.

Edmonton's Henry Wiebe and Grace Box of Calgary, currently reside and train in Korea returned to Canada and defeated Osborne and Wu 23-21, 21-18 in mixed doubles final. Kyleigh O'Donoghue of The Glencoe Club in Calgary defeated unseeded Wang of Royal Glenora Club 21-17, 21-15 to capture the women's singles title.

In the only event not won by an Albertan, Timothy Chiu of Ontario defeated the number 1 seeded Andy Him Lam 11-21, 21-14, 21-19.

The tournament featured only 56 players, as many of Canada's top players were in Orlando competiting in the Yonex USA International.  The next Canadian Senior Elite event will take place November 14-16 in British Columbia at the VLTBC.
