September 2007 - the Badminton World Federation, Badminton Canada and Badminton Alberta have adopted the RALLY POINT scoring system.
In Alberta, meetings were held in May and June to discuss the new system and the following modifications have been made for all provincial tournaments to be held in Alberta during the current playing year (2007-08).
1. INTERVALS and COACHING:
The following are the new intervals for the Rally Point System, and when coaching will be permitted.
a. A 60 second interval is allowed during each game once one side reaches 11 points, but no coaching will be allowed.
b. Prior to the semi-finals, the 120 second interval between the 1st and 2nd games will be permitted without coaching support. During the semi-finals and finals, coaching during the 120 second interval will be allowed.
c. The 120 second interval between the 2nd and 3rd games will be allowed in all rounds and will permit coaching support.
NOTE: Badminton Alberta has decided that no player will be allowed to leave the court during any of these intervals. Sufficient water and extra racquets should be with the player on court at the start of the match.
3. SCHEDULING OF MATCHES:
When a tournament draw is made matches are scheduled and posted prior to the start of the tournament. It should be noted that these times are approximate times only. All players are asked to report to the draw desk 30-minutes prior to the start of their match. If a court is available a match may be called early.
All players are also reminded that they are responsible for being in close proximity to the draw desk to hear their match called. Tournament organizers and officials are not responsible for searching the halls of the venue for missing players. The 10-minute default rule is in effect for all matches.
Badminton Alberta would greatly appreciate the cooperation of all players and their families in ensuring that all tournaments run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. It takes all parties working together to make a tournament a success.
Thanks for your cooperation!
