AGE CATEGORY

  • 17 years of age and under
  • Year of Birth: 1999 or later

ZONE TEAM COMPOSITION

  • The maximum team size shall be: 5 male and 5 female

FILL POLICY

The first “fill” spot will be given to the zone with the greatest number of participants in that gender at the zone playoffs.

2.     Each subsequent “fill spot will follow as per the highest number of participants in the zone playoff.

3.     If after the first round of fills there are still available spots, the zone with the greatest number of participants in the playoff will start the process again filling a second “fill” spot from that zone, and so on until all spots have been filled.

  • Fill athletes will receive zone ID for the zone of which they are filling.
  • Fills will stay in Village accommodations with the zone to which they are filling .
  • Fills count toward team points for the zone for which they are filling, as well as their individual points.
  • Fills must be submitted for approval to the Alberta Sport Connection by January 7, 2016.

ELIGIBILITY

Athletes

  • Athletes will be ineligible if they have represented Canada in the team event at either

        World Junior or PanAm Junior competitions.

  • Athletes may compete in their zone of residence or a zone where they are a club member, however, they must declare zone of choice prior to playoffs.
  • Athletes born in 1999 or later may  complete in the Badminton  Alberta Winter Games

Coaches

  • NCCP Certification—Staff registered as coaches and managers must be fully certified Comp Intro Regional (formerly Level One technical) under the National Coaching Certification Program to at least Comp Intro Regional in Badminton.
  • All coaches and chaperones must be at least eighteen (18) years old by the start of the Alberta Games.

Affiliation

  • Affiliation with Badminton Alberta is mandatory at zone and provincial levels by all athletes.
  • Affiliation fee is $20.00 (basic affiliation) at the zone playoff level.
  • An additional $20.00 (competitive affiliation, $40.00 total) is required for athletes who qualify for the Alberta Games.

Provincial games registration fee and deadline

All zone team competitors, who qualify to compete at the 2016 Alberta Winter Games (excluding coaches and chaperones), are required to pay an individual registration fee of 60.00.  This fee will go towards offsetting the costs related to transportation, accommodation, meals, zone identification, medals, athlete entertainment and sport competitions.  This fee must accompany the athlete’s registration form for the Provincial Games.

Please note that the registration deadline for Badminton is January 7, 2016.

EVENT(S)

Team Competition

  • Consisting of five (5) matches (1 males singles, 1 female singles, 1 male doubles, 1 female doubles, 1 mixed doubles)
  • Each team member must be nominated for 1 event per tie.  All players must be nominated.  No player may be nominated for more than 1 event
  • Team line-ups may be altered for each round of team competition
  • Round Robin qualifying (2 pools of 4 teams), with top teams playing off for positions 1-4, bottom 2 players/team in each pool will play for positions 5-8
  • Round robin pools will consist of Zones 1,3,5,7 in Pool A and Zones 2,4,6,8 in Pool B
  • Each draw will consist of 1 entry per zone, for a draw size of 8 position.

 

Individual Competition

  • Five individual event draws will be developed in one age category (under 17 years)
  • Round Robin qualifying (2 pools of 4 entries), with top two teams playing off for positions 1-4, bottom 2 players/teams in each pool will play for positions 5-8
  • Round Robin pools will consist of Zones 1,3,5,7 and Zone 2,4,6,8 in Pool B.
  • Each draw will consist of 1 entry per zone, for a draw size of 8 positions.

Events governed by Badminton World Federation rules.

 

PROTEST PROCEDURES

  • All protests during the course of the tournament must be brought immediately to the attention of the Tournament Referee.
  • If the Tournament Referee feels it is necessary, he/she has the right to summon the Protest Committee to decide on any protests.
  • The Protest Committee will consist of the Tournament Referee, Provincial Sport Coordinator and Host Community Sport Chair.
  • All decisions by the Tournament Referee or Protest Committee are final.

 

EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS

  •      Feathered shuttles will be used in all events at the Alberta Games.

 

ENTRY AND ZONE PLAYOFF PROCEDURES

The zone selection process to be determined by each zone must be approved by the Provincial Sport Coordinator. Selection process will be determined by 

Size of entry

  • Events contested will be determine by size of entry.
  • Time and courts permitting, zone trials will consist of singles, doubles and mixed doubles.  If all five events are held, the winner in each event will qualify for the Games. The order of play will be doubles, singles and mixed doubles.  The winner of any event is not eligible to contest the next event.  The team winning doubles, will not be permitted to contest singles, the winners of singles will not be allowed to contest mixed doubles.  If mixed doubles is not held, the second place finisher in singles will fill the fourth position.

 

  • Each zone will qualify 4 males and 4 females for nomination to represent their respective zones.
  • Qualified zone athletes will be restricted to one individual event entry in the individual event competition, and must be nominated no more than once in each tie within the team competition.
