International coaching opportunities now available

On behalf of Badminton Canada I would like to inform you of the opportunities for coaches to become involved in the National Team Program over the next two years and beyond. We wish to expand the number of coaches working with our National Team athletes and the National coaches. We will be offering opportunities for coaches to travel with the National Team and National Team coaches, and gain experience with managing teams of athletes at international competitions.

The opportunities will be open to any coaches who are NCCP Level 3 or higher certified, have paid their Badminton Canada Champions Club fee and who are members of Coaches of Canada. For those who are not members of Coaches of Canada the membership application process can be found here: Coaches of Canada - Application Process.

We will accept applications from coaches who are not currently Coaches of Canada members provided they attain membership prior to any trips representing Badminton Canada. Coaches selected to attend an event will have their travel and accommodations paid for and will receive an honorarium.

We will be looking for coaches for the following specific events and positions over the next two years:

 

2012 Pan Am Junior Championships

22nd-29th July

Team event head coach, Individual event support coaches (2 positions)

2012 Pan American Championships

8th-14th October

Lima, Peru

Team and individual event assistant coach (1 position)

2012 World Junior Championships

25th October- 3rd November

Chiba, Japan

Team and individual assistant coach (1 position)

2013 Sudirman Cup

End of May

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Team assistant coach (1 position)

2013 Pan Am Junior Championships

End July- Start August

Additional opportunities may also become available depending on funding levels. If you are not able to commit to any of the events listed above, but are still interested in the program and other potential activities, we encourage you to submit your information.

In addition to the above listed program, Badminton Canada is also looking to expand the scope of our National Coaches program. We currently have two National Coach positions for the National Team and will be looking to increase the number of coaches and transition to additional coaches for the next Olympic cycle. The National Team coaches are responsible for assisting National Team athletes with their training programs, competition programs and will be designated as head coaches for major international events like those listed above and the Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, Commonwealth Youth Games, Youth Olympics and Olympic Games. National Team coaches will also be responsible for monitoring National Team athletes and working with their personal coaches. We are also planning to create a Junior National squad that will require National Coach oversight. The minimum requirements for involvement in the National Coaches program are the same as for the event coaches’ pool.

To indicate your interest in the two coaching programs please send the following information:

1. Event Coaches Pool

  • Cover Letter
  • CV including references
  • Letter of support from your Province
  • Verification documentation of coaching levels and Coaches of Canada membership or indication of timeline to become a member
  • If you have specific event requests please include them in your cover letter

2. National Coaches Program

  • All of the information listed under Event Coaches Pool documentation
  • An essay outlining your experience working with top level National athletes at the junior or senior level and your reasons for wanting to join the program.
