The Founding Dinner of the newly created Badminton Alberta Foundation was held Thursday, April 28th, 2005 at The Glencoe Club.

One hundred and sixty-five guests were in attendance to hear of the plans surrounding the creation of a dedicated public badminton facility in Calgary.
Don Smith, President of the Badminton Alberta Foundation used the opportunity to acknowledge five Albertans who have contributed in their own way to the game of badminton in Alberta.
  • Pauline Ingall, official
  • Helen Baxter, official
  • Channarong Ratanaseangsung, coach
  • Jeff Bell, builder
  • Keith Chan, athlete
On May 10, 2005, The City of Calgary has formally agreed to enter into lease negotiations with Badminton Alberta involving a former community association clubhouse in S.W. Calgary.  This is exciting news as it provides a focal point for the Badminton Alberta Foundation to center its fundraising efforts.  The BAF is committed to raise at least 1.5 M in order to build a ten court badminton facility.
The successful acquisition of the community association property will reduce our building commitment from 2.5 M to 1.5 M and speed up our occupancy of the completed project by several years.

The Badminton Alberta Foundation gained not-for-profit society status in Alberta in April of 2004.
Objectives of the Badminton Alberta Foundation are:
  •     To fund and promote participation in the sport of badminton by persons of all ages, throughout Alberta.
  •     To fund and promote the education and evaluation of coaches and officials at all levels of the sport of badminton throughout Alberta.
  •     To sell, manage, lease, mortgage, dispose of, or otherwise deal with the property of the society.
Goal of the Badminton Alberta Foundation:
  • BAF invites you to participate in the funding and completion of the first single use, public badminton facility in Canada planned to open in Calgary in the fall of 2006.
Badminton Alberta Foundation has established a donation fund called the 'Badminton Alberta Fund' to be professionally managed by the Calgary Foundation
