The 29th annual YONEX ALBERTA SERIES concludes with the fifth of five tournaments being held March 19-20-21 at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton. This tournament also serves as the Alberta Closed Provincial Championships, and is therefore closed to non-Albertans.

 
SCHEDULED SERIES EVENTS:
#1 Concordia University College of Alberta, Edmonton: October 24-25
#2 University of Calgary, Calgary: November 6-7-8
#3 Mount Royal College, Calgary: January 8-9-10
#4 Edison Badminton Centre, Okotoks: February 19-20-21             
#5 Royal Glenora Club, Edmonton (Alberta Closed Championships): March 19-20-21
#6 YAS Super-6 Finals, Calgary: May 28-29 (Invitation only)
 
FORMAT – Series waterfall format will be used. Everyone will start in A, with first round losers dropping to ‘C’ category. First round losers in ‘C’ category will drop to ‘D’, while second round losers in ‘A’ will drop to ‘B’. Everyone is guaranteed three matches per event time permitting.
 
EVENTS - Players may enter a maximum of three events, one singles, one doubles and one mixed doubles. 
 
LIMITED ENTRY - Due to on-going renovations at the Royal Glenora CLub and the loss of one court, the tournament entry will be limited to the first 60 registrants and their partners. Once 60 players have registered, the registration will close, and only partners of players already registered will be allowed into the tournament. The tournament will be conducted on 4 courts,, as court One will be unusable, as it will contain bleachers.
 
AWARDS – Continued for this season – $3,500 in prize money will be paid out to the winners of the ‘A’ event of each of the five tournaments. Out of province players are welcome and encouraged to enter. All participants in the ‘A’ division, regardless of province are eligible for prize payout.
 
SUPER 6 FINALS – The winners of each event at every Series competition will qualify for the Super 6 Finals. After the winners have qualified, the next highest ranked athletes in each discipline will be invited to fill the compliment of 6 players/teams per event. The Alberta Incentive Program will be distributed based on the final results of the Super 6 Finals. Further information found on Badminton Alberta website.
 
YONEX POINTS – Winners and finalists in the ‘B’ and ‘C’ category will qualify for Yonex Product Points.  Credit holders can purchase sponsor merchandise once they have enough credits. Players will be able to purchase what they want, when they want or save up for something substantial like a new racquet.
 
SCHEDULE – Play commences at: Friday 6 PM - men's and women's singles; Saturday 9 am – men’s and women’s doubles; Saturday 3 PM - mixed doubles; Sunday 9 am - play continues in all events if required. Subject to change.
 
SHUTTLES – YONEX feather shuttles supplied for all matches.
 
SERIES RANKINGS – Continuing for 2009-2010, Yonex Series Ranking point standings will be calculated and posted following each tournament. These rankings will be maintained separately for singles, doubles and mixed doubles and will be utilized to invite non-tournament event winners to fill the Super 6 Finals compliment.
 
The final Yonex Alberta Series Rankings will be based on an athlete’s best three of five results from the YONEX Alberta Series tournaments, including the Alberta Closed Championships.
 
CLOTHING – Appropriate sports attire and non-marking shoes are required.
 
REFEREE & DRAW MASTER – Jeff Bell (403) 297-2722. Draw times available at 1:00 PM the Wednesday prior to the tournament.
 
ENTRY FEES – 1 event - $50 per player; 2 or more events - $67.50 per player. All fees include feather shuttles & 5% GST. Badminton Alberta has been issued a Goods and Services Tax business number (12647 3495). On-line payment must be made at the time of registration. Badminton Alberta is now set-up to receive payment by either: Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
 
ENTRY DEADLINE – entries are due no later than 4:00 pm MST (midnight GMT) at least ten (10) days prior to the start date of the tournament. Timed draws will be posted on www.badmintonalberta.ca by 1:00 PM on the Wednesday prior to the tournament. Late entries will not be accepted by the On-line registration system or through the office.
 
ELIGIBILITY - All participants must be affiliated individually as a Competitive Member with Badminton Alberta. Badminton Alberta membership will be verified at the time of On-line registration and available if required.
 
TOURNAMENT RULES – Three-minute on-court warm-up. Ten-minute default rule will be in effect. BWF Rally Point scoring format will be utilized. Coaching will not be allowed at the 11 point interval, from the back of the court or between the first and second games, but coaching will be allowed during the two minute break between the second and third game. The two-minute break will be respected between all first and second games, without coaching. Further explanation available here.
