The YONEX ALBERTA JUNIOR CIRCUIT continues with the second GOLD level tournaments being held December 9-11, 2022 in Calgary at the Calgary Winter Club.

REGULATIONS

ENTRY FEES – $95.00 per player regardless of age category (includes $2.50 Young Officials fee).

PAYMENT OF ENTRY FEE - Tournament entry and required payment is available on-line, using the Tournament Software (TS) online registration. Entries not completed online will not be accepted. No manual entries will be accepted. Changes to an entry are not permitted after the final entry deadline. For entries in doubles and mixed doubles, both players must be entered within the same entry deadline, or they will be partnered with another player if available.

ENTRY DEADLINE – Entries are due no later than 6:00 pm MST at least ten (10) days prior to the start date of the tournament. Timed draws will be post on www.badmintonalberta.ca by 2:00 PM on the Wednesday prior to the tournament. Late entries may be accepted at an additional cost of $25 per player. No changes to the draws will be entertained once the timed draws have been published.

MEMBER ELIGIBILITY - All participants must be individually affiliated with Badminton Alberta and process a provincial or national level player’s license (valid from 01 September to 31 August 31 of each year) for the 2022-23 season or be a member in good standing with another provincial/territorial badminton association. Badminton Alberta membership and player license must be obtained through PlayerWeb prior to attempting to register for the tournament through Tournament Software. When registering, players will be automatically prompted if their membership needs to be renewed or invalid and requires upgrading.

CONDITIONS – The Calgary Winter Club Junior tournament is open to athletes born in 2010 or later (u13), or born in 2008 or later (u15). Alberta athletes must be members of Badminton Alberta with a PROVINCIAL level players license. Membership and license status will be validated at the time of initial registration.

FORMAT – GOLD level events with six or more entries will feature main round single elimination style draws. In events with less than six entries, round robin draws will be utilized. Consolation draws will be held in all events with six or more entries for all those losing their first-round match. Players who win their first match by walkover and lose their second-round match will not be eligible for consolations. Players receiving a bye in their first round and lose their second round will be eligible for consolations.

EVENTS - Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Players may enter one singles, one doubles, and one mixed doubles.

AWARDS – Each host organization will be responsible to present awards to all main draw event winners, runner up and consolation winners.

CLOTHING - "Coloured clothing" rule in effect at the Calgary Winter Club. The use of protective eyewear is encouraged for all players.

SCHEDULE – Tournament will begin Friday’s at 1:30pm with singles. Depending on the size of the entry, at least one round of mixed doubles may occur Friday evening. Doubles events to begin Saturday at 9:00am, with every effort to finish play by 6:00pm Saturday evening. Start times are subject to change depending on the size of entry. Schedule is subject to change, based on size of entry and availability of courts. All finals will be held Sunday morning beginning at 9:00am.

SHUTTLES – YONEX AS-40 or AS-50 feather shuttles supplied for all other age categories.  Quantity of shuttles may be limited if abnormal use is experienced.

SERIES RANKINGS – YONEX Alberta Junior Circuit ranking point standings will include GOLD and SILVER level junior tournaments held within Alberta. GOLD level events will use 3* column of Alberta Ranking Points table. The YONEX Alberta Junior Circuit rankings will be calculated and published on Thursday of the following week. These rankings will be maintained separately for singles, doubles and mixed doubles. The final YONEX Alberta Junior Circuit rankings will be based on an athlete’s best four results including the results of the YONEX Alberta Junior Elite (national circuit) and from the YONEX Alberta Junior Provincial Championships.

DRAW MASTER – Badminton Alberta staff (403) 297-2108. Draw times available at 2:00 PM the Wednesday prior to the tournament

REFEREE – To be assigned by the host club and approved by Badminton Alberta.

TOURNAMENT RULES – Badminton Alberta has adapted the following rules regarding the allowed rest intervals and opportunities to receive external coaching assistance.

Coaching will be permitted under the following situations:

  • Between second and third games of all matches (120second interval will be allowed)
  • Between first and second games of a match of all semifinal and final rounds (120-second interval will be allowed)
  • No player will be allowed to leave the court during any of these intervals. Sufficient water and extra racquets should be with the player on court at the start of the match.
  • Coaching is not permitted:
    • Prior to the start of the match following warm-up
    • During the 60-second interval when one side reaches 11-points of any game in any round
    • Between first and second games of a match prior to the semi-finals

YOUNG OFFICALS PROGRAM - Badminton Alberta will be continuing with the implementation of phase one of the Young Officials Program, which requires the winner of a match to stay on-court to score keep the upcoming match on the same court. Scheduling of the tournament will be adjusted to provide additional rest time between matches to accommodate the additional commitment of the players. In the case of doubles, the decision to whom will stay behind to score keep will be decided by Rock-Paper-Scissors between the winning pair. Any player unwilling to cooperate with Tournament Management will be removed from the tournament.

COACHING ELIGIBILITY – Effective January 01, 2016, Badminton Alberta will require that all coaches entering the field of play be minimal Comp Intro Regional certified.

 

WAIVER OF RIGHTS AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF POLICIES

- You understand and agree to the following: You are participating at your own choice and, intending to be legally bound, you hereby acknowledge and agree to assume all risk of injury and loss of any kind whatsoever in participating in this event.

- You agree that you shall be solely responsible for all claims, demands, damages, costs, expenses, actions, causes of action, whether in law or in equity, resulting from any loss, personal injury, or property damage, or for the loss or theft of any property, however caused, as a result of, relating to or arising from your participation in this event.

- You hereby indemnify and save harmless Badminton Alberta and its members, agents, and/or representatives and its successors and assigns from and against all liability whatsoever resulting from any loss, personal injury, property damage, loss or theft referred to in the preceding paragraph.

- You hereby waive, release and forever discharge Badminton Alberta and its members, agents, and/or representatives and its successors and assigns, to the fullest extent permitted by law, from any and all claims, actions, causes of action, liabilities, obligations, damages, omissions or costs as a result of, relating to or arising from your participation in this event.

- You acknowledge that you have fully read and understand the Policies put forth by Badminton Alberta on the Badminton Alberta website and agree to abide by any rules and regulations outlined therein from the time of online entry until the completion of the event.

- You agree that this release and waiver of liability shall be binding upon you and your heirs, executors, administrators and assigns.

- You and your parent/guardian (if the athlete in under 18 years of age) confirm that you have reviewed the approved Concussion Awareness Resources within the last 12 months.  These resources are available at www. badmintonalberta.ca

WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS:

  • Refunds are provided to participants, less the 25% administration fee, who withdraw before the competition registration deadline.
  • After the registration deadline, but before the draws are made, refunds are provided for the administration fee of 50%.
  • Refunds will not be provided for withdrawals after draws have been made.
  • No refund will be given to those who do not provide proof of vaccination, or a negative antigen test result no later than 72 hours before the start of the competition.

CONSENT TO USE PERSONAL INFORMATION The Holder (and the Registrant's parent/guardian, if applicable) authorizes the Club, the Member and Badminton Alberta (collectively the "Organization") to collect and use Personal Information about the Registrant in order to receive communications and for the purposes described in each organization's privacy policies.

PHOTO - The Participant (and the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) grants permission to the Organization to photograph and/or record the Participant's image and/or voice on still or motion picture film and/or audio tape, and to use this material to promote the sport, the Organization, and/or the Organization's Activities through social media, newsletters, websites, television, film, radio, print and/or displays. The Participant (or the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) understands that they waive any claim to remuneration for use of audio/visual materials used for these purposes. Permission may be withdrawn at any time by contacting either Organization's Privacy Officer. The Privacy Officer will advise the implications of such withdrawal.

PHOTO - The owner (and his/her parent/guardian, if applicable) authorizes the organization to photograph and/or record his/her image and/or voice on a fixed or cinematographic film and/or audio tape, and to use this material to promote the sport, organization and/or activities of the organization through social media, newsletters, websites, television, films, radio, print media and/or exhibitions. The Holder (or the Parent/Guardian of the Holder, if applicable) understands that he/she waives any claim for remuneration for the use of audio/visual material used for these purposes. Permission may be withdrawn at any time by contacting the privacy officer of either organization. The Privacy Officer will inform you of the consequences of such a withdrawal.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK

1. The Participant is voluntarily participating in the sport of badminton and the spectating, orientation, instruction, activities, competitions, programs, and services (collectively the "Activities") of Badminton Alberta, and the Calgary Winter Club. These organizations and their respective Directors, Officers, committee members, members, employees, coaches, volunteers, officials, participants, agents, sponsors, owners/operators of the facilities in which the Activities take place, and representatives (collectively the "Organization") are not responsible for any injury, personal injury, damage, property damage, expense, loss of income or loss of any kind suffered by a Participant during or as a result of the Activities and/or, when the Participant is the age of majority or older, when caused by the negligence of the Organization.

RISKS
The Activities have foreseeable and unforeseeable inherent risks, hazards and dangers that no amount of care, caution or expertise can eliminate, including without limitation, the potential for serious bodily injury, permanent disability, paralysis, and loss of life. These risks include:

(a) Executing strenuous and demanding physical techniques;
(b) Vigorous physical exertion, strenuous cardiovascular workouts and rapid movements;
(c) Exerting and stretching various muscle groups;
(d) The failure to properly use any piece of equipment or from the mechanical failure of any piece of equipment;
(e) Spinal cord injuries which may render the Participant permanently paralyzed;
(f) Serious injury to virtually all bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and other aspects of the Participant's body or to the Participant's general health and well-being;
(g) Abrasions, sprains, strains, fractures, or dislocations;
(h) Concussion or other head injuries, including but not limited to, closed head injury or blunt head trauma;
(i) Physical contact with other participants, spectators, equipment, and hazards;
(j) Contact with a racquet, shuttlecock, net, or the court;
(k) Not wearing appropriate safety or protective equipment;
(l) Failure to act safely or within the Participant's own ability or within designated areas;
m) Travel to and from competitive events and associated non-competitive events which are an integral part of the Activities.

3. The Organization may offer or promote online programming (such as webinars, remote conferences, workshops, and online training) which have different foreseeable and unforeseeable risks than in-person programming.
These risks include privacy breaches, hacking, technology malfunction or damage.

4. The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization and COVID-19 is extremely
contagious. The Organization has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, the Organization cannot guarantee that the Participant will not become infected with COVID-19. Further, participating in the Activities could increase the Participant's risk of contracting COVID-19 or any other contagious disease.

5. The Organization may be negligent, which may include failure by the Organization to take reasonable steps to safeguard or protect the Participant from the risks, dangers and hazards associated with participation in the Activities.

TERM
6. In consideration of the Organization allowing the Participant to participate in the Activities, the Participant agrees:
a) That the Participant is not relying on any oral or written statements made by the Organization or their agents, whether in a brochure or advertisement or in individual conversations, to agree to participate in the Activities;
(b) That when the Participant practices or trains in their own space, the Participant (or the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) is responsible for the Participant's surroundings and the location and equipment that is selected for the Participant;
(c) That the Participant's mental and physical condition is appropriate to participate in the Activities and the Participant (or the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) assumes all risks related to the Participant's mental and physical condition;
(d) To comply with the rules and regulations for participation in the Activities;
(e) To comply with the rules of the facility or equipment;
(f) That if the Participant observes an unusual significant hazard or risk, the Participant will remove themselves from participation and immediately bring their observations to a representative of the Organization;
(g) The risks associated with the Activities are increased when the Participant is impaired and the Participant will not participate if impaired in any way;
h) That it is the Participant's (or the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) sole responsibility to assess whether any Activities are too difficult for the Participant. By the Participant commencing an Activity, the Participant (or the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) acknowledges and accepts the suitability and conditions of the Activity;
(i) That COVID-19 is contagious in nature and the Participant may be exposed to, or infected by, COVID-19 and such exposure may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, or death; and
j) That the Participant (or the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) is responsible for choosing the Participant's safety or protective equipment and the secure fitting of that equipment.

DISCLAIMER

7. When the Participant is the age of majority or older, the Participant assumes all risks arising out of, associated with or related to, participation in the Activities and waives any and all claims that the Participant may have now or in the future against the Organization. The Participant, when the age of majority or older, accepts and fully assumes all such risks and possibility of personal injury, death, property damage, expense and related loss, including loss of income, resulting from participation in the Activities.

8. When the Participant is the age of majority or older, the Participant forever releases and indemnifies the Organization from any and all liability for any and all claims, demands, actions, damages (including direct, indirect, special and/or consequential), losses, actions, judgments, and costs (including legal fees) (collectively, the "Claims") which the Participant has or may have in the future, that might arise out of, result from, or relate to, participation in the Activities, even though such Claims may have been caused by any manner whatsoever, including but not limited to, the Organization's negligence, gross negligence, negligent rescue, omissions, carelessness, breach of contract and/or breach of any statutory duty of care of the Organization.

9. The Organization is not responsible or liable for any damage to the Participant's vehicle, property, or equipment that may occur as a result of the Activities. This Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by law of the Province of Alberta and if any portion thereof is held invalid, the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. The Participant (or the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees to file any lawsuit against the Organization in the Province of Alberta and further agrees that the substantive law of the Province of Alberta will apply with regard to conflict of law rules.

 

ACCEPTANCE OF RISK

1. The participant voluntarily practices badminton and participates in the activities, competitions, programs and services of Badminton Canada (collectively the "Activities"), Badminton Canada, Badminton Alberta and the Calgary Winter Club. These organizations and their directors, directors, committee members, members, employees, coaches, volunteers, officials, participants, agents, sponsors, owners/operators of the facilities in which the activities take place, and its respective representatives (collectively "the organization") are not responsible for any injury, property damage, expenses, loss of income or losses of any kind suffered by a participant during or as a result of the activities. and/or, where the participant is of legal age or older, when they are caused by the negligence of the organization.

RISKS

The activities involve foreseeable and unpredictable inherent risks and hazards that are unavoidable, including, but not limited to, the risk of serious bodily injury, permanent disability, paralysis and death. These risks include:

(n) Performing demanding and tiring physical techniques;
(o) Intense physical exertion, intense cardiovascular training sessions and rapid movements;
(p) Exercise and stretch for various muscle groups;
(q) Misuse of equipment or mechanical failure of equipment;
(r) Spinal cord injuries that may result in permanent paralysis of the participant;
(s) Serious injury to almost all of the participant's bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and other parts of the body or to the participant's overall health and well-being;
(t) Abrasions, sprains, strains, fractures or dislocations;
(u) Concussions or other head injuries, including but not limited to closed head injuries or blunt head injuries;
(v) Physical contact with other participants, spectators, equipment and possible hazards;
(w) Contact with a racket, steering wheel, net or field;
(x) Not wear appropriate safety or protective equipment;
(y) Failure to act safely or within the capabilities of the participant or in designated areas;
(z) Travel to and from tournaments and related non-competitive events that are an integral part of activities 3. The organization may offer or promote online programs (such as webinars, remote conferences, workshops, and online training) that present predictable and unpredictable risks that are different from those of in-person programs. These risks include privacy breaches, hacking, technological failures or damage.

5. The organization may be negligent, which may include failing to take reasonable steps to safeguard or protect the participant from the risks, hazards and hazards associated with participating in the
activities.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

6. In consideration of the organization allowing the Participant to
take part in the Activities, the Participant agrees: (k) That the Participant shall not rely on any oral or written statement made by the Organization or its agents, whether in a brochure or advertisement or in individual conversations, to agree to participate in the Activities;
l) That when the participant trains or practices in his/her own space, the participant (or the participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) is responsible for the participant's environment and the location and equipment that is selected for the participant;
m) That the participant's mental and physical state is appropriate to participate in the activities and that the participant (or the participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) assumes all risks related to the participant's mental and physical state;
n) Comply with the rules of participation in activities;
o) Respect the rules of the installation or equipment;
(p) That if the participant observes an unusual significant danger or risk, he withdraws from participation and immediately makes his observations to a representative of the organization;
q) The risks associated with the activities are increased when the participant is weakened and will not participate if he or she is weakened in any way;
r) That it is the sole responsibility of the participant (or the participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) to assess whether certain activities are too difficult for the participant. By starting an activity, the participant (or the participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) acknowledges and agrees to the relevance and conditions of the activity;
s) That COVID-19 is contagious in nature and that the participant may be exposed to or infected with COVID-19 and that such exposure may result in injury, illness, permanent disability or death;
t) That the participant (or the participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) is responsible for the selection of the participant's safety or protective equipment and the secure attachment of such equipment.

WARNING

When the participant is of legal age or older, the participant assumes all risks arising from his participation in the activities, associated with or related to them, and waives any claim that he may have, now or in the future, against the organization. The Participant, when of legal age, fully accepts and assumes all risks and possibility of injury, death, property damage, expenses and related losses, including loss of income, resulting from participation in the activities.

8. Where the Entrant is of legal age or older, the Entrant shall forever release and indemnify the Organization from any and all claims, demands, actions, damages (including direct, indirect, special and/or consequential), losses, actions, judgments and costs (including legal fees) (collectively, the "Claims") that the Entrant has or may have in the future, that may arise from or result from participation in or in relation to the activities, even though such claims may have been caused in any way, including, but not limited to, by the negligence of the organization, gross negligence, negligent rescue, omissions, recklessness, breach of contract and/or breach of a legal duty of care of the organization.

9. The organization is not responsible for any damage to the participant's vehicle, property or equipment that may occur as a result of the
activities. This Agreement is designed to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by law of the Province of Ontario and if any part of this Agreement is found to be invalid, the remainder will, notwithstanding, continue to be in full force and effect from its legal effect.

  
The Participant (or the Participant's parent/guardian, as applicable) agrees to bring any legal action against the Organization in the Province of Ontario and further agrees that the substantive law of the Province of Ontario applies with respect to conflict of laws rules.

STATUS OF ACTIVITIES The Participant is voluntarily participating in the sport of badminton and the spectating, orientation, instruction, activities, competitions, programs, and services (collectively the "Activities") of the Club, the Member, and/or Badminton Canada ("collectively the Organization").


The Participant (and the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization has the discretion to cancel any scheduled Activities. The Organization has no responsibilities to the Participant (including refunding registration fees or paying for any costs associated with travel) if an Activity is canceled or postponed by the Organization or for any other reason including a public health or safety issue.


The Participant (and the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization has the discretion to modify the structure of any Activities due to a public health or safety issue, which may include removing specific disciplines or age groups from a competition, changing a competition format, or changing the manner in which individuals become eligible to participate.


The Participant (and the Participant's parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization may implement and enforce guidelines for participation that may include 'Return to Play' protocols or the wearing of personal protective equipment by Participants (and their parents/guardians, if applicable). The Organization has the discretion to remove any Participant (and their parents/guardians, if applicable) who does not comply with the Return to Play protocols or wear personal protective equipment. When required, the Participant is responsible for providing his or her own personal protective equipment. STATUS of Activities The incumbent voluntarily participates in the sport of badminton and the performance, orientation, instruction, activities, competitions, programs and services (collectively the "Activities") of the club, member and/or Badminton Canada (collectively the "Organization").


The Registrant (and the Licensee's parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization has the discretion to cancel any planned activity. The organization has no liability to the registrant (including reimbursement of registration fees or payment of costs associated with travel) if an activity is cancelled or postponed by the organization or for any other reason, including a public health or safety concern.


The Licensee (and the Licensee's parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization has the discretion to change the structure of any activity due to a public health or safety issue, which may include removing specific disciplines or age groups from a competition, changing the format of a competition, or changing the manner in which individuals become eligible to participate.


The Registrant (and the Licensee's parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization may implement and enforce entry guidelines that may include "Return to Play" protocols or the wearing of personal protective equipment by The Holders (and their parents/guardians, if applicable). The organization has the discretion to remove any registrant (and their parents/guardians, if applicable) who does not comply with re-play protocols or does not wear personal protective equipment. If necessary, the holder is required to provide his or her own personal protective equipment.
